Prez Message
Well, here we are in a new year, a new decade and the opportunity to get off to a fresh new start in 2010. I Have had the opportunity to pass along a few articles on what some in the press feel is happening to Jazz. Frankly, what happens to jazz is what we Jazz Lovers want to happen to Jazz. Having had the chance to see and hear a number of young musicians in High School Jazz Ensemble's and the move to various College Jazz Groups in the Greater Milwaukee Area, I get the feeling that Jazz is not in a down beat, but perhaps a growing mass of young musicians getting ready to hit the street and show their wares developed in their field of expertise.
Certainly, they will need a place show their wares, so it's up to us Jazz Lovers to get out and enjoy the music. Generally when a young musician is asked why they move into jazz, their response is that they do it for the people. The band group and the crowd are really in it together. Though often thought and sometimes said, music can change your life.
We at Jazz Unlimited continue to do our part in promoting youth in Jazz. We will be holding our annual auditions for Jazz Scholarships on Sunday, March 14, 2010 from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the Steinway Piano
Gallery, 11550 West North Avenue, Wauwatosa, WI. For more information: Call Carol Lers at 262-691-5873 or e mail, iazzunlimitedmke@aol.com.
Don't let Winter get you down, Spring is just around the corner. Lets hope it's not a long block.
Ta ta for now,
Domenic
