CAMP AMMON…A BRIEF HISTORY
When Camp Ammon began in 1933 there were 300 Scouts who stayed within the camp and over 20,000 Scouts visited during the Fair. They gave demonstrations of scoutcraft and participate in parades. The scouts operated 17 scoutcraft booths in the junior fair and served as guides, messengers and aides to the fairgoers. This was intended to be a one-time event, but State Fair Director, Ralph Ammon, asked the scouts to come back in 1934 and Camp Ammon has been there ever since. |
