Family, Home, Hobbies… scroll down to view some Work details
As a cultured, married Englishman living in a peaceful and very pleasant country setting that’s just a few miles northwest of Sussex, Wisconsin, I'm very happily connected to
Sandy Shave, a simply wonderful lady whose personality, aura and
glow
simply make life far more than just “fun” for me and for the many, many people who have been
both inside our workplaces as well as most everywhere we've been. I arrived here in the 1970’s on an international work visa, and today hold a dual citizenship for the US & UK.
Please feel free to view and share some of our wonderful
Wedding Pictures
(use the browser BACK function
should the "return" link takes you to the "wrong" page)
and others. Our immediate family includes
my son & daughter-in-law, Stuart & Jill,
Sandy's daughter Kelly & her beau, Quentin Gayles, with a 2011 Fall wedding right around the corner(!),
and Kaci with her beau, Dave Hostios and their son, Maxwell Bridges… All of these can be found
with a visit or 2 to FaceBook (where you have to sign in to visit) or to LinkedIn.
My younger son, Alex, sadly
passed away,
many years ago.
We're also blessed with a very large International extended family…brothers & sisters
(& in-laws of both), nephews, nieces, uncles, aunties & many cousins as well
as our parents. All of these wonderful people (who are still living) are in & around
Wisconsin
as well as in various places around America (Washington DC, Atlanta GA, Chicago, Florida, etc)
and around the world in
England,
Korea
and
Australia
as well as (walking, a few years back!) around Europe…
you may be certain that as you read these, other places are today occupied and/or visited!!
I’ve managed to collect a huge pile of family-related history data over the last 2+ decades, and
have posted non-private data at the
Ancestry
site, where you can sign in for a free account and then view my public data.
Our older site (view
here
) is still partially loaded, but a whole lot less functional as we took it all down
for security reasons in 2004.
I also took some time to collect some slices from my life over the years (in several places!)
& tucked them into a
photo album.
There's also a developing collection of
snapshots
that have mostly come from my 47th birthday
gift,
which takes
I was born in the mid-50’s and grew up in
Bournemouth,
England, a seaside town with miles and miles of
white beaches
that’s about 75 miles southwest of
London.
After spending most of the 70’s in the
British Army,
stationed in various
places
around
Europe,
I lived in & around London for about 3 years, learning about repairing &
programming computer equipment & then doing exactly that with
Burroughs’
mainframe computer at Midland Bank in North London before moving to the
Washington, DC
area in 1980 to do the same thing with the World Bank's computer. These physically enormous
machines did batch processing for banking and financial transactions, requiring many square feet
of controlled and conditioned space with dozens of 6' cabinets and hundreds of connecting cables!
I lived in several places around the DC area for 6 years or so developing software with various
businesses before joining GE Medical Systems (now GE Healthcare) in
Waukesha,
Wisconsin and settling in the area in July 1986.
Sandy & I spent several years living on White Oak Drive in a large house on an acre-sized country lot surrounded by beautiful, mature oak trees near a town called Sussex, just north of Waukesha. We decided in late 2003 to move on & had our new house, “Palace in Nirvana,” built to a detailed plan and moved into Emerald Fields in December 2004…quite an adventure!
Sandy’s favorite hobby is planting, growing and nurturing (well, most of the time!) oodles & oodles of flowers, shrubs, grass, trees, “weeds” and so forth all around the garden, making the Emerald Fields surrounds gardens simply exquisite to sit in and “soak up” while we leisurely enjoy breakfast at the weekend – an absolute delight as can be seen here and here! I love to poke around our computer or play with our audio systems (music from Stevie Ray Vaughn, Greg Allman & his brothers, Led Zeppelin, Yes, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, Mick Jagger & his gang, Deep Purple…yes, I could go on!!) as well as our video & TVs (Big!!) toys. All of this fun is when I’m not snuggled up with my home library…Adam Hall (Quiller), Martin Cruz Smith, Sagan , Ludlum, Clancy, Deighton, and Jack Higgins, to name just a few.
While Sandy still spends a considerable number of her waking hours with "The General" or his relatives, we each strive to enjoy as much of Mother Nature’s outdoor life as we possibly can, camping, canoeing, fishing & hunting, biking, walking, etc as well as living a very busy social life with friends and family! We’re expecting to be able to do more of this as we contemplate a Southerly relocation in the near future for our grandkids!!
On the health
front, I'm “aging gracefully” (well…) and continuing as A Successful Survivor
of a brain tumor, a simply devastating disease for many. Some key details about
this complexity may be viewed at my personal page which shares several
thoughts and other elements of significance.
Don's Work History…
I recently established a medical device development consulting role at Creative Logic Software, LLC. Multiple decades were spent before this at GE Healthcare with multiple key leadership roles in various Engineering teams, developing products and more recently focusing on the world of internal problems around our design & development quality systems… My CV (extended resume) can be viewed here.
