Current Monster Ideas
Here is what the creative minds of Quake psycho people have come up with since 2/17/97...
#79 Super Zombie - yeech, nasty attacks
DESCRIPTION: Is much taller, and more muscular than regular zombies, about the height of an ogre. Same skin problems. It's legs are normal, though muscular, but then it gets weird. It has two torsos splitting off from its waist, and there's a lot of blood and gore down there, as if it didn't do a very good job at putting itself together. The two torsos operate independently of each other. The torsos are pretty much indentical. Due to its multiple arms, it can climb up walls. Death is the same as regular zombies (must gib), except this guy can take two or even three rockets before he gibs.
ATTACKS: Even more disgusting than regular zombies: ONE OF THE TORSOS TEARS ITS OWN ARM OFF AND USES IT AS A CLUB. When it swings the arm around, there's a trail of blood behind it. The other torso tears off skin and throws it, like a regular zombie. More nastiness: If it manages to hit you with it's arm/club, you slowly lose life, until you become a zombie yourself! It is possible to avoid this by finding a health box, though naturally this guy would hang out far from any of these.
COMMENTS: This monster would naturally be found in areas where there are many zombies, perhaps as a guardian or a mini-boss. By: -Alucard31-
#78 The Arms - yeah, like arms, what did u think, legs??
DESCRIPTION: A pair of big, muscular arms. Look more or less like human arms, just bigger.
ATTACKS: These freaks are planted in a wall, preferably near where someone is likely to go, i.e, right after a power up in a dead end tunnel, or in a corner where someone might back into while fighting monsters. You can't see them until they reach out. When you get too close, they come out of the wall, and either put you in a bear hug and crush the life out of you, or throw you up in the air or at some spikes or monsters.
WEAKNESS: Can't be killed while their hiding in the wall. When they come out, they throw you too fast to be shot. If they try to crush you, then you can shoot them with whatever you feel like. They have about as much life as Ogres.
IMAGINE: You're in a fire fight with a bunch of Scrags and stuff, so you back into a corner to tighten things up. Whammo! You're flying through the air, or you can't move and your life is draining away. . . By: -Alucard31-
#77 Big Leaguer - down for the count...but not quite out yet
DESCRIPTION: A somewhat large monster (maybe a little smaller than a shambler) that is more or less humonoid (like a big ogre, really). Would appear on military base levels, so it would be dressed out like a grunt or an enforcer. This guy is essentially just a big grunt or enforcer with a very large, pipe-like laser gun. It's the gun that makes him special...
ATTACKS: He's able to use his gun in two ways: 1. As a laser. The blasts are pretty powerful, but take a couple of seconds to fire (like a BFG). The Big Leaguer is able to keep his aim on you until he fires though, unless you get too close, whence he will use the heavy gun... 2. As a bat. When you get too close for him to effectively aim and fire the gun, he will swing the thing at your head. A successful hit will result not only in some serious damage (and a painful "clong" sound of the steel gun hiting your skull), but it will also knock you backwards and "stun" you for a few seconds. A "stunned" state would be just like death, only temporary: you get that sideways, shoe-level perspective and you can't move or attack for about five seconds. This will give the Big Leaguer one free attack with his laser, and will give other monsters a free attack or two as well.
WEAKNESSES: The Big Leaguer takes a lot of damage before he goes down, but he is very slow. His laser would also make a humming noise as it's powering up to fire, so as long as you avoid the blasts, and don't get close enough for his gun-upside-yer-head attack, he should be a manageable but tough foe. By: -Blake-
#76 Automatic Scientists - wall mounted people finally do something
DESCRIPTION: The Automatic Scientists are found on military bases, and like grunts and enforcers, are former humans who have been "assimilated" by the Quake forces, and have been left on earth to research horrible technologies for the Qauke army. They have the typical scientist lab coats on, but also have lots of mechanical pieces stuck to them, a la the Borg, including a series of pipes, wires, and tubes that connect the scientists directly to the room that they are in.
ECOLOGY and ATTACKS: The scientists are usually found in groups of three or more, and are always working on something: a peice of machinery, a computer terminal, or possibly a dead monster that's laying on an operating table. Like real scientists, they are very absorbed in their work, and tend to ignore the players and monsters. Also like scientists, however, they hate to be interupted, and they really hate to have thier work tampered with or destroyed. As a result, if a player or monster runs into them or shoots them (or the stuff that they are working on) the scientists will retaliate. Since they are physically attached to the biulding via the tubes and pipes, they can't move very far from where they are working to attack, but also because of this attachment, they can "tap in" to the various goos and fluids that circulate through the building that they are in, and can spray out stuff at the player (or a monster), such as: radioactive slime, lava, fire, acid, or a superheated mist. These attacks would tend to do lots of damage, and the scientists would also tend to keep spraying a steady stream of stuff at thier target, and would also tend to concentrate thier attack, as a group, a single target.
WEAKNESSES: Although the spray weopens are a great offense, the scientists have no armor to speak of and make no attempts to dodge attacks (like anything else in Quake does, anyway). A single shotgun blast should do one of them in. By: -Blake-
#75 The Air Elemental - pneumatic attacking invisible flyer
WHAT: A humanoid shape that has a transparent look to it, like the predator, but less staticy and more like it has mixes of colors like blue and brown flashing along with its transparency. It can fly of course.
PERSONALITY: It usually hangs around in open areas or were there are a lot of pits and sky. Is totally invisible when far enough away so you don't know were it is, even in bright areas! The good thing is that there is always some debris getting knocked around it, so you can have a general view on where it is.
ATTACK: When it gets close enough to you, it raises its arms and blasts you with wind like a gigantic transparent laser blast. This doesn't hurt you though, but knocks you back about 20 feet in the opposite direction that you were facing! That means that you can be helped by it too if you're at the right place at the right time. This can be really tricky if you're in a room with spikes, pits, slime, or ledges though. Another attack is that it can hurl pieces of whatever is near it as it creates a tornado around it that can suck you in and then spit you out the top of it high in the air for mega fall-damage. So all the while you're getting pulled in, you're getting hit by clods of dirt, metal rivets or even your own projectiles! This monster can't be hurt by any of your weapons, but you can use a rocket or grenade to stun it for a couple of seconds while you make a getaway. Good thing its claustrophobic...
IMAGINE: Coming out of a tunnel and getting blown into a swarm of zombies, and then having you and the zombies getting smacked around in a tornado right over a pool of slime thirty feet below! By: -C.B.-
#74 Evil Clone Guy - two guys in one from Army of Darkness
Looks like the guy from AOD but when he dies he falls and goes into a changing animation then the Code from the monster spawns a second monster that is the skeleton version which starts its animation by getting up and somehow it will appear like it is popping out of the dead "skin" of the clone ( you gotta know what I mean just think for a second ) He has a shotgun and an Axe-arm as a living guy and has a sword, biting attack, and a shield. The Axe and shotgun are like normal weapons but the sword has a radius damage so if you are close to him when he attacks he can hurt you even if your behind him. The shield would have an airfist type of use but in a weaker state. He would have about double the energy of you and would be able to replenish his health when he's a skeleton. His weakness would be the nailgun for living form and the shotgun for skeleton. Being gibbable and severable would be a good extra ( knocking that skeleton's head off would kick some serious ash if Cartman ever said so. I know there is someone who would LOVE to do an Army of Darkness TC so here's some ideas. By: -Killerboy#3-
#73 Scavengers - after death annoyances
DESCRIPTION: creepy gross things that swarm over dead foes/montsers a minute or two after they are killed and fight each other over chunks. May include insects, rats, vultures, undescribables, etc. All the animals should be really unpleasant to look at: semi-featherless, flightless crows; wet, damaged rats; bloated legless things, etc.
ATTACKS: They would typically not attack unless you stumble into them (e.g. if you're chased back into an area that you've already "cleared" and accidently run into a bunch of them). Attacks would consist of simple bites and claw attacks, possibly transmitting a "disease" that would last and slowly knock off h-points until you got a health box or a 100 h-points box or something.
SOUNDS: The usual yucky slurps and scrapes that we expect from Quake fauna.
WEAKNESSES:Very weak; several could be killed with a blast of the ol' double barrel.
POINT?: Would add more sick-out atmosphere to the game, and also make "cleared" areas not all that safe (but still safer than a respawn feature). It would also be a neat coda if the critters lighted on the player after death (only viewable if you don't immediatly quit or start over, obviously). I've had this idea for awhile and recently read somewhere that flies swarm on dead bodies in QII, although I havn't seen it yet. My idea could expand on that one, making the scavengers a somewhat active part of the game. By: -Blake-
#72 Re-Animation Annelid - the undead make worms that undead the dead...huh?
DESCRIPTION: A worm like thing that lives in the spines of dead monsters and zombie-ates them. Would be like the "zombie-maker" guy that I read about on your page, but with a more biology oriented theme.
HOW IT WORKS: Just like in the movies (puppet masters, night of the creeps, the hidden, etc). The zombie versions of the monsters would be slow and would only have proximal, mechanical attacks (bunches, bites) and when killed (not really killed, but damaged too much to make a good host for the worms), the worm creature (or creatures) would quickly squirm out of the body and run "backwards" (to rooms that you've already cleared) to jump into other dead monsters and reanimate them. These monsters would then move "forwards" to attack you. Them worms themselves would have no attacks.
WEAKNESS: Worm is easy to kill in the open. It moves fast, though.
POINT: Acts like a respawn, but with strategy: not every monster will respawn, and none will if you don't kill the original zombie-monsters (thereby not releasing the worms), or if you are quick enough to kill the worms when they jump out of the monster. Also, would add some disturbing atmosphere: e.g. maybe if the scrags (is that what the flying things are called?) get reanimated, all they are able to do is flop around and spew out green goo. By: -Blake-
#71 The Helper - oooohh, now this one is very good or very bad.....it sorta depends...
WHAT: When you kill it, the right way, it will help you for the rest of the episode. It is only available in Nightmare skill. When you are helped by it all codes you put in will have no effect. And you can’t re-put them in either. God mode is gone, so is impulse 9 and all of everything else. However it is VERY difficult to beat. So don’t think you can kill it like grunt and have protection. It isn’t complete protection either. It’s like having another you to help you. It isn’t very fast, though. It gets your weapons and however much ammo you have. It doesn’t take it so you don’t have anything; it just gets a copy of everything.
SIZE: About the size of an Ogre, but a little bigger. Not quite Shambler-sized, but close.
MODEL: Looks like a long, thin, armored thing with a metallic reptile-like head, with long arms and legs, with a huge gun. Colored jet black.
SOUNDS: None. Is completely silent unless is attacks (which makes sense because it has a gun).
SPECIAL ABILITIES: Can do quite a number of things. First off, it’s silent, so it likes to act like a sniper. It’s black color makes it difficult to spot on high platforms where it shoot you from. It has a very powerful weapon, sort of like the Shambler, but it shoots grenades with no splash, so it goes right into you with serious damage. It can also walk through walls at will, like it has the “noclip” code on all the time, so it can get away if you shoot it. It’s helping abilities, though, are the best. It can sense if one of it’s own kind is coming, and it won’t hurt you if you can kill it right.
ATTACKS: As I said, it will act like a sniper and use it’s powerful weapon to hit you, then run away like a wimp, so it is very difficult to kill it right to get the reward, but the payoff is worth it!
WEAKNESSES: None really, just try to kill it as best as you can, but it dies quickest with the thunderbolt, next with the Perforator, but it takes a LOT of ammo with the latter. It also isn’t affected by grenades, similar to the Shambler.
HOW TO KILL IT TO GET THE HELP: This is, like I said, very hard, but it is great once you get it because it stays for the rest of the episode, not just the level: First, you have to be able to track one down, which is tough enough. Once you get it close, kill it! Then run over it, it will give you a new weapon called the “Superlauncher.” Once you have that, you have to find another Helper and kill it using the Superlauncher. Once you do, it will help you by helping you kill enemies until you’re done with the episode. It can still die, but only if you accidentally shoot it. After you finish the episode, You have to do it again for the next one! By: -Z.G.-
#70 The Brooms - so simple yet interesting
WHAT: It's those guys from the Disney movie, Fantasia. Those brooms that mutiply when the get cut in two.
WHY: I liked this guys site and I wanted to contribute.
MODEL: Half size of the player, just a broom stick that bends every time it moves.
SPECIAL ABILITIES: Every time you kill it, it'll gib into other wood chunks and those will become it's "mother" brooms as well. NEVER USE THE AXE!! It'll mutiply like crazy!! But I think the insanity should stop somewhere because otherwise you would have a level filled with the dancing brooms.
SOUNDS: Some creaking for the walks, craking wood for the death.
ATTACKS: Only close up, it'll jump up and wack ya, giveing out 1 - 2 points of damage. Remeber, these guys will be everywhere so there should be alot of damage.
WEAKNESS: The nail gun! Filling it with nails would way it down and can't walk. Just think, a shot gun to wood would make it break apart, a grenade would spreed it's babys everywhere! By: -JSPman1-
#69 Mr Dorky - uhhh....not sure what to think of this one??
LOOKS: A 12- year-old covered in pimples with his finger stuck up his nose. carrys a book entitled 'Maths for a Rainy Day' and another book 'Maths for a dry day.
TACTICS: Usually pulls out blackboard and tells you in a scientific way rather smug with himself.
PHRASES: "I think you'll find thats wrong" "Leave me alone!" "Thats mine!" "As Einstein said..." "Oh, I'm just re-defining the natrual laws of gravity, ho-hum." "Watch it mister, you could poke someones eye out with that." "MUMMY!"
HOW TO KILL: Easy. By: -XXX Reaper (Previously XXX)-
#68 Nigra Vega - packin some serious armage
DESCRIPTION: this monster stands just slightly taller than a shambler. it has two heads one of witch looks kinda like the multi grenade ogres from quake mision pack 2 and the other looks kinda like venom (the comic guy from spider man) except that instead of eyes he has spikes protruding from his eye sockets. he? she?. . .it has four arms one of the top arms has a rocket lancher grafted to it (kinda like the cyberdemon from doom) and the other hand holds a double barrled sawed of shot gun. his bottom 2 arms would pick you up and throw you against a wall if you got to close while the rocket lancher and shotgun would blast you from medium and long distances. his skin looks a dark blue with blood splatered everywhere on him (kinda like an ogre) and its built like a body builder. huge muscles bulging everywhere. ohh. . it also has blood all over its faces so it looks like its been eating the dead.
SOUNDS: it would have to make cool noises like the garbled voices that the moster at the end of doom 2 makes and it would also roar like a shambler except that it would be more gutteral and evil sounding.
DEATH: if you kill it you should be able to pick up one of its weapons (choose randomly) by walking over one of his arms. he would need 2 gibed head models. and if he kills you he should laugh at your dead body with an evil and hidious laugh. By: -Nigra Vega-
#67 The Blue Meanie - whoa, take me back to the 60's but sorta cool
Yes the blue meanie. If you've seen yellow submarine, you know who is is. He is fat, ugly, and blue. When you hit him he says 'no!' in that weird tone of his. And when he sees you he says soemthing 'no your blueness'. I guess he'll come after you with a weird gun that turns you green or whatever. They can throw those big green apples at ya too. Hell, do the big hand while yer at it! I'll even skin the damned thing! By: -Yojimbo-
#66 Draconian - umm...got time to rap a few words with a monster??
APPEARANCE: like an human, but with bright red scales,an tail, wings,a long neck, and weird head.he wears an black 'armor that covers his chest, waist, and where his legs begin. he has an pulse rifle in one hand, and a flail in the other.
ATTACK: when he sees you,he yells,"DIE,DRAGONKILLER!"at you and fires the pulse rifle of you're far away ,and uses the flail up close.
Important: he thinks you're a dragonslayer. If you explain to him you're not,he'll stop attacking, and tells you to follow him.he then leads you to the exit, and explains he has to find a tool before he can get to help you in the next level.
WEAKNESS: rocket launcher. By: -J.T.-
#65 DOOM 2's ARCH-VILE - an Arch with many new tricks
It fires a trail of fire across the ground. If it hits you, you fly backwards and up. In close combat it slashes at you with long claws. Also has many new attacks, such as spawning a zombie from the ground to help it. Can respawn the soldier, enforcer and knight. By: -J.D.-
#64 The Predator - from...like the movie, you know
SPECIAL ABILITIES: Turns into a semi-transparent silouhette when seen for more than 0.5 seconds; climbs walls like a panther (w/ animations please); traces your position w/ his shoulder-pack and launches a burst of concentrated (reddish) plasma after locking (sweet electrical sounds implemented will be welcome); kick-ass health...
WEAKNESS: bleeds bright green blood and leaves trail when subdued 50% of health; shouts his manhood too much (that roaring sound he emits whenever extracting the spine from his prey).
AI: Unlike suicidal units, he actually ducks, shuns, hides and immobilizes to give the player a sensation of competition and blood-turning fear; searches for safe areas when medical care needed to hunt back (w/ a vengeance)
WEAPONS: plasma cannon, red sniper beam, razor disc, post-modern javelin (strapped in his back)
SPECIAL EFX: Emits a stream of light around his body when hit by bullets, half-body visible when badly damaged
XTRA: gives you a random weapon (from his library) when defeated By: -Jam-
#63 Water Mine - electricly shocking underwater thingy
Doesn't it get annoying when you're doing really well in DM (QD, all weapons, people everywhere, you get the picture) , and some idiot discharges into the water you're in. I thought that would be an annoying trap in 1-player. Just imagine, you jump in some water and blast at some rotfish and a shell hits that round, shiny-lookin thingy sitting there. Suddenly, electricity flows through the water...but you can see it. It shines up the room and drains your health (rate of 1/2 a nailgun). All the rotfish gib around you. You try and swim away, but it is continuisly sucking, pulling you in, all the while making that high sqweaky sound, and when you hit the center, there is one final bright flash as you explode.... and then you jump in the water and do it again!!!!!! (oops) By: -Jakal-
#62 Grappler - the hook is one mean weapon
This guy is about as small as a gremblin, but a dirty green with a long snout. He has a cannon arm with a grappling hook and an airfist. The grappling hook is superfast though. This can make him really annoying. he'll grapple you, and as soon as you come close, he airfists you away, causing some damage. If you try to run for health or something, he can grapple it to himself and use it himself. If you try and shoot him, he'll grapple away somehow. The worst part is that like a gremblin, he can steal your weapon with the hook and use it against you. You can kill him by sneaking up to him and blasting him away before he notices you. He is easy to hear because he is always rattling the hook chain. It only takes about 2 shells to kill him, but the hard part is just hitting him Mabye not as annoying as the energizer bunnies or the old girlfriend, but a whole lot more dangerous.... By: -Jakal-
#61 Teenage Girl - alright, now this is getting out of hand here!
APPEARANCE: If you need an answer it's a definite sign you: A:) Haven't seen the sun B:) Playing too much Quake.
SOUNDS: High pitched screaming noise when it sees you. Sort of like the rock star thing. When it doesn't see you it can be heard on the phone conversing with fellow monsters. When it attacks it starts whining about how it never sees you enough, why you don't spend enough time with it, who is that (bleepin) *itch....etc.
ABILITIES: No other monsters besides its own kind hang around it for fear of losing their ability. You can never escape it. Walk through walls, comes out of nowhere and at the most inconvenient time, like walking down a hallway, killing a shambler, just out of a door. Hears EVERYTHING you do and say, no matter where the f*ck you are and whatever you're doing. It's attacks are totally demoralizing, your appearance goes down the drain before you health does. And in multi-player your teamates don't hang around you anymore and claim they can't recognize you man and smack some good sensing lead into that thick skull of yours. Over the course of the level, your health degrades so you are a mere shadow of your former self, much like a sitting duck. First it grabs you and gives you Quad damage for 10 seconds, then it wears off. If you don't get out by then, your screwed. It first grabs you and starts nagging until you are a weeping, begging mass of dirt. Then you have a chance to run, but it grabs you and drags you through the level yelling things like, "Oh a shoe sale!" and "Does this look good on me?". It finally finishes you off, and puts you out of your misery with a final "Do I look fat?" The instantaneous death. It then leaves you to wallow in you own misery and crepulence. [shudder]. If you can still walk you are finished by MEETING THE PARENTS. The father is the neighbourhood sociopath and the mother a raving lunatic.
ESCAPE: Extremely Important! Unfortunately the whole Quake arsenal and others created are utterly useless. There are only four known weapons able to defeat this evil, remoresless monstrosity.
A) The bitch slap - instantaneous and leaves you for the rest of the level. No other like monsters come near you because of a "bad rep" forcefield. Conveniently located as the [backspace] key. In multiplayer action once a bad rep field is initiated when you return to your team you will receive 100% health and ammo.
B) Rocket, Pump AIR Jordans, outfitted with Predator Fins and Jets- Two words: Run the *uck away.
C) Tell a dirty joke or use an appropriate pick-up line- Once spotted you MUST immediatly hit "~" and type the first and worst dirty joke or pick-up line you can think of, a list can be conveniently obtained through the internet. Similar to the slap a "bad rep" field will surround you.
D) Suicide, the ultimate happiness - That's right though not Roman Catholically correct you can commit "hari kari". But since this is Quake, you warp to hell where you can go to the WHEEL OF REINCARNATION. Possibilities include: Your best friend, a dog, a cockroach, amoeba, Barney the Dinosaur, Dudley the Dragon, Your appropriate underworld god, Bill Gates III, Bill Clinton, A republican, Pillsbury Doughboy, or the Ultimate 100 foot HOMER SIMPSON. By: -Necromancer & FireStarter-
[I dare any game maker to put this above monster in a game and pull it off, hehe -Destroy]
#60 The LIFLUR - a well rounded monster
FEATURES: The LIFLUR climbs walls. Will attach itself to the roof, and drop down on or near the player. Has a grappling hook, a fully auto laser rifle, and a grenade launcher. Dodges by strafing, ducking, jumping over rockets, and using his grappling hook to get to the roof. It will be a bit taller than the player. Lots o' life.
MODEL: Looks like an overgrown praying mantis wearing a straight black armor suit that looks kinda like a still suit (from Dune). Has a claw, and a big technological cannon for his other arm. His legs would be big machine sort of metal huge thing.
SPECIAL FEATURES: Picks up health, and picks up weapons. Will use powerups if he finds them, like quad damages, invisibility, and invulnerability.
SOUNDS: Makes sort of a machine sound. A lot like the cyberdemon. You can hear his footsteps. KTCHUNK, KTCHUNK. Laughs at you when he is hit. When he dies, he screams in agony and then gibs into little metallic giblets.
TACTICS: Will attack the player, and follow the player. Dodges by strafing, ducking, jumping over rockets, and using his grappling hook to get to the roof. Will sneak in to attack (footsteps kinda give him away). One kinda cool sneaking in tactic he would have would be that he would use his grappling hook to swing at you. By: -SLAYER-
#59 Energizer Bunny - a monster or just rambling on?
The energizer bunny will keep chasing you though the whole level and you cant kill it and when you come back it'll still be there but you cant kill it because it keeps going and doing soon you'll bump into another bunny rabit and then it will get so crouded that you cant move and then you'll have to buy a special patch off of id software for 666 dolar so the bunnies will terrorise some one else on deathmatch the patch only works once so choose someone you hate. someone you hate alot and id software will be so rich there will be a quake 3 By: -Mike-
#58 Hell Laiser - powerful lasers
Looks: cyborg like skin, metallic like (scenery reflacts on the skin like a mirror) red eyes human shape but 4 armes no mouth. looks like the predator or something like the terminator sound: silent but deadly listen for shingling footsteps or beeping digital or better yet one of your dukematch pal's dieing on you attack: his last name isn't laiser for nothing (neither is hell) this guy has laser eyes and will destroy anything (walls, cielings ,guns , other enemies ,your gun , health kits ,if he could he,d kill himself ((YOU WISH!!!)), and most best of all YOU special: beware the dark wont protect you because this cerial killers got night vision INFRA RED. By: -Mike-
#57 The Couch Potato - er..I don't think so but funny
APPERANCE: Fat 48 year-old with a big packet of crisps in left hand. Hat with Kiss me Quick written on it. Pink shorts and tiny red t-shirt.
WEAPONS: Farts out a deadly green gas that makes you fall over with disgust. Lose 10 life.
PERSONALITY: Very lazy. Will not bother following you if you run away. Only attacks if you come near his crisp packet. By: -XXX-
#56 Terminator 2 - the mercury man
LOOK: This anoying basterd will be alot like the T 1000 from terminator 2.He will be this short little skinny dude that slowly walks toward, taking his time,he will have a little grin on his face.He is made up from Uhh...err...that crap that morphs back together if broken apart.Everytime you shoot him a few pieces of him will fall off and slowly make their way back to him and blend back in to him in a smooth water like motion.Fire a rocket in to and he will explode all over the whole room making a mess, slowly he will recover and pull him self together, all the little pieces will start to move in one direction and form in to a big piece then form in to the shape of the monster the way he looked before that little exident.(the little pieces can not hurt you)You might be able to shoot of his arm or his legs,he will then crawl at you and still have that little grin on his face.Make a hole in him by fireing the lightning gun at his belly, the hole will slowly heal back.Try hacking at him with the good'ol stainless steel double bladed ax and watch as little pieces fly across the room, and then watch as he tears you apart with his bare hands.
WEAPONS: He can morph his arms in to different weapons like a sword a big spike an ax maybe giant hedge clippers, razor blades,etc...May be he will be able to morph in to other creatures but that idea is already taken.
SOUNDS: He wouldnt make any grouns or grunts(he does not feel pain)only the sounds as the little pieces pull them selves back together.
WEAKNESSES: None.He just keeps going, and going, and going hehe:)You cant kill him you can just blow him up in to hundreds of pieces and run the hell away from him. By: -Sector-
#55 Guard - smart protector
This monster would sort of be like the enforcer monster but i think this monster should have more detail than the Enforcer not much armor so you can see how strong and muscular he is(give him big muscles)give him a different weapon in each hand (Laser gun in one hand,a big stainless steel double bladed ax)camophlauge<---(dont know if spelled right, prolly not) army pants,he should have some sort of a mask on his face to make him look even cooler(maybe like a gas mask, and he can maybe throw gas bombs at you too)I want to make this monster tough and i want him to look tough, but not to be a monster like dude, more looking like a human.I think i'll call him "Guardian" he can guard like important items, strong weapons,so in order for you to get to the item or whatever you need to get past him first,or maybe a group of those guys can guard some entrances,gates,slipgates,etc...So their main mission is to Guard, like if some other monster wonders close to the guarded place the Guardians start attacking the monster(they just follow their order,to Guard)I want them to be inteligent like not just stand there and fire lasers at you,i want them to strafe, jump, run, whatever you can do they can do also(gives a bit more challenge to it)Maybe they can charge at you so you have to kinda run away from them or something, they fire lasers at a far range and if you dare to get face to face with this killer he will start acking you with the ax. By: -Sector-
#54 The Turtle - right
SOUND: a sucking sound when he hides back in his shell a biting sound when he bites ya
WEAKNESS: any place out of his shell (you actually have to aim to kill this little bugger)
ACTION: goes back in his shell when hes scared, slow walking motion, rolling (when in his shell), biting the heck out of ya! By: -P.H.-
#53 CyberShambler - fat CyberDemon?
OK...this monster is the shambler but...with cybernetic implants in its head arm and legs. Instead of macigally creating thunderbolts he uses the gun on his arm to spew a continuous beam of energy at his enemies. the computer wired to his brain makes him move like a machine but with intelligence and strategy. i got this idea from the cyberdemon of DooM. #52 The Pitcher - holy crap! <duck> look out! <duck>
It's fairly short, half the height of a knight and looks like an ant creature of some sort. It is superstrong, dumb and has only one specialty. It basicly uses "things" and throws them at you for its defense and offense. For example, it can pick up a dead Shambler and throw it at you. It can throw a health box at you. It can even take out a chunk of a wall if it wants to and throw it at you. It can rip a torch off the wall and throw it at you. Throwing a health box at you is what I mean by it's dumb cause when it "hits" you with a thrown health box, the box gives you health, just like when you run over one. By: -Destroy-
#51 The Multiplier - one of these things is not like the other..
WHAT: A monster that can take on the form of any monster.
WEAPON: normal weapon of the monster it has morphed into
TACTICS: The cool part!!! It's a monster that can hologram itself into 5 other monsters exactly the same looking as itself, but the trick is only one is the original real monster, the others are fake and basicly harmless. The holograms move but not necessaryly mirroring the real monster's moves. They DO all shoot their weapon/attach at the same time however. The 5 fake monsters fire fake shots/attacks at you with fake guns/weapons/etc. In effect, it looks like there are 6 monsters in the room shooting/attacking you but actually only one is shooting real bullets. Your shots/rockets/nails/etc go right through the fake monsters although you can't see through the fake monsters. They look exactly like the original "real" monster.
IMAGINE: So no problem, you see Scrag behind a pillar in a big room and shoot at it. Zing! Now there are 6 Scrags all around you!! All spitting their green slime at you, which one do you shoot at first knowing you have very little ammo left? By: -Destroy-
# 50 Borg - you will be one of us....
Ever seen the movie Star Trek: First Contact?? Remember those mean Borg? :) :) How about having them (5 variations of them ;) roaming around, assimilating everything? They won't shoot you, just assimilate you... By: -concorde-
# 49 Elder Druid - pick a monster, any Q monster
This creature (or druid I should say) should look like some sort of wizard. He should not need any weapons for he has the ability to morph into any monster in the registered version of Quake. When he is not morphed into any creature he will try to run away from the player. He should sound like the deathnight from Warcraft 2 only more vile and evil. By: -T.B.-
#48 Spider - the web we weave
This spider should have close-range attack abilities. He should also be able to spin a giant web in between walls and in hallways. When the player runs into the web he will become stuck (can't move) until he kills the spider who made the web. Easy to Medium strength. By: -T.B.-
#47 Lava Wurm - great little balls of fire!
The lava wurm should spring up from lava pits when the player reaches a certain distance. He should look like Cython (episode 1 boss) only much skinnier and serpent like. He should fire small fireballs that are more annoying then devasting. When he is killed he will respawn somewhere else in the level that contains lava. Medium to Hard strength. By: -T.B.-
#46 Death Angel - so simple yet damn good idea
As a flying creature, the death angel should have wings. She should fire concentrated blasts of energy similar to the shalrathi vore. She should also be able to pick you up and fly you to the ceiling and drop you to your death. When she dies you should be able to pickup and use her wings for 25 seconds. Hard to Nightmare strength. By: -T.B.-
#45 Godzilla - you know, the big monkey...
WHY: what kinda demented kid, grew up and never saw the big lizard melting those model tanks.
LOOKS: we know what he looks like (there's only about a million web pages dedicated to him), but he'd have to be cut down to size, maybe about twice the size of the dragon in quake pack 2 (or maybe just going into a room with a big hole in the foor for him to pop his head in to wash the room with fire)t
TACTICS: stomps, shoots fire, basically hangs out trying to figure out how a big monster like him got into this big lair thru that little doorway
SOUNDS: is there anything cooler than that distinctive roar??? By: -John-
#44 Living Statue - it is alive...
WHAT: A creature that looks like a statue made out of various brushes with a skin resembling an appropiate texture for the level it's in.And to complicate matters,a few prefabricated brushes resembling the creature.
APPEARANCE: Could look like anything actually. I envisioned it looking like a wingless dragon with a beaked head. Remember,it got to be fairly blocky.
SOUND:The grinding of stone.
PERSONALITY&ATTACKS: Should probably be unactive until a trigger is crossed. Then they should leap at you and attack with close range weapons only.
Imagine looking at a pair of intresting statues then turning around and walking a short way, only to be hit in the back by them. By: -Lifegiver-
#43 Cyber Hound - mean teething mutt
APPEARANCE: large cybernetic dog about the size of the fiend with red fur, glowing white eyes, metailc legs and teeth, and very high intelligence
ATTACKS: it would have a jumping bite attack, and a laser strapped to its back for long range work
WHAT: This guy would inhabit tech levels and be one mean mother. It should also have cujo like noises, and just for a kick have it wander around the level chewing on the items that can be picked up. The chewing would cause the armour to be less powerful, the health boxs not to work as well, and the weapons to have less or no ammo. Also lighting based weapons would have no effect on this creature, in fact they would make it temporaily more powerful, sending it into a berserker rage....guess those morphine implats don't like to be shocked.......:) By: -DarkPoet-
#42 Predator Marine - smart tough thing
APPEARANCE: The model looks like a normal grunt except it has a gun in each hand, and it also has metalic colored skin.
WEAPONS: The left hand gun would be a rocket propelled grenade launcher and the right would be a rapid fire nail gun.
PERSONALITY: This monster would use bot like AI to hunt down and kill the player, due to its intelligence there would only be one or two of these per level, it would have about 300 hp, but not be able to recover hp cause it is a android. It wouldn't be able to pick up weapons or armor to keep it fair. By: -DarkPoet-
#41 Trap Monster - hungry sand hole trap
WHAT: This isnt quite a monster and isnt quite a trap but its more of a hybrid of the two. In a level if you set up a bunch of moving platforms and elevator type functions and triggers and button functions all with perfect timing and in a dark room (using new textures) its possible to make it so that when a person walks through a room, if he steps in just the right spot a giant sandworm monster bursts up out of the ground and clamps its jaws around the player causing crushing damage and then the insides of it fill with digestive acids (moving acid water brush) that cause even more damage. and it would have well hidden areas on the inside and outside that would allow you to free yourself or someone else to free you by shooting the thing and causing it to go back down. very complicated and difficult to do (I should know. I've tried) but I believe its possible. By: -M.O.-
#40 Evil Cleric - disease spreading fireball thrower
WHAT: The ogre, only not an ogre. he has no chainsaw and has no grenade launcher. he looks more human than an ogre, taller, less stocky and has more human features than before. he wears leather pants and a purple tunic with the red glowing symbol of his cult on the front. he can use magic to cast explosive fireballs at you (remodled $ reskined grenades) his left arm has been currupted by the evil of his religion and is like a deseased zombie arm. in battle he runs forward and swings this plague covered limb at you to spread its nasty infection. By: -M.O.-
#39 Skeletons - nuff said
What Quake needs are some Skeletons. They would be the same size as the Quake guy or a knight. They should be equipped with swords and maybe shields. Their attack style would be pretty much like the knight (running at you swinging away). The Skeletons wouldn't gib though. When they die, they would just collapse into a pile of bones. By: -K.H.-
#38 Pace Maker - did my watch battery die?
WHAT: Its pretty tall. 2 times the height of an Orge but extremely skinny. It is a sick yellow color and has rather large hands for its body size. It likes to snap its fingers and it has the armor of a Orge also.
ATTACK: It has no real weapon. But what it does is slow down your weapons fire. When it snaps is fingers, which usually happens immediately after you fire a weapon at it or near it, your weapon's projectile (bullets, rockets, grenades, lightning, etc) slows down 20 times its normal rate of movement. The weapon force or damage is still the same when it hits something its just that its moving towards the enemy very slowly. Which gives the monster(s) all the time in the world to get out of the way. Also, you would, in theory, to be able to "run ahead of" or run into your weapon's fire and get hit by your own weapon projectiles.
IMAGINE: So you see a PM in a room and think no big deal, I'll simply fire 2 rockets one on each side of it real quick and for sure, when the rockets get there, they will kill it. Thats correct. But now, what if it was a room full of different monster and one PM...can you say "time for some fancy foot work" while doing some serious stalling waiting for some of your weapons to try to hit your many targets. Time to learn how to use the axe maybe? By: -Destroy-
#37 Place Maker - am I drunk or just battling a PlM?
WHAT: It looks like a large 4 ft tall mushroom with vapor coming off the top of its "head". It moves by hovering or sucking to any surface including walls and ceiling. It's fairly fast, about the speed of a normal Knight and they always travel with other long range attack monsters as backup.
ATTACK: When it feels threatoned it would instantaniously teleport you to another part of the room. However, it usually teleports you on the ceiling or on a wall. Which means you would be walking and running on the ceiling or wall. You would stay on that one particular wall or ceiling (you can't simply walk from a wall to the floor or from the ceiling to a wall, etc. to get down) until the PlM is dead. Once you have killed the PlM, you fall to the floor.
IMAGINE: Your kickin butt and fall through a hidden trap door into the middle of a large room filled with different monsters and a PlM of course. After 1 sec of fighting the PlM freaks and teleports you on the far wall. Here's the interesting part, you would see everything sideways, just like you are actually standing on the wall!!! Now that you are farther away from the PlM its somewhat calm but 5 sec later it freaks again and ZOOM, now your standing on the bloody ceiling! And everything is upsidedown! Your trying like hell to kill all those damn monsters and this stupid PlM is teleporting you all over the freakin room! Talk about disorienting! By: -Destroy-
#36 Zombie Fungus - do not disturb the spores
DESCRIPTION: This zombie toadstool is a small, inanimate, puffball-looking fungus which can cling to any surface: floor, wall, or ceiling. It has no attack capability of its own and no way to defend itself. Any hit will instantly reduce the fungus to gibs. Each gib will then morph into a zombie.
SCENARIO: You open a door, walk into a small room, and are confronted by a single ogre. No problem! Whip out the weapon of choice and blaze away. Too bad you didn't notice the dozen fungi clinging to the walls... By: -Flash-
#35 Shield Monster - help me, help me, hurt me?
WHAT: This is a monster that sits and waits for you like any other retrievable item. It's medium-sized, and indestructible. It's also dark shaped and about half as heavy as you.
PERSONALITY: When you pick up this monster, it attaches itself to you like a leech. It feeds off of you by draining 10 hit points (all at once) about every 30 seconds. In return, it has its own weapon which it fires at all opponents in addition to yours (like the "Dual Weapons Patch" on www.user1.netcarrier.com/~clazarow/). It also absorbs half of all damage you take from all sources. The drawbacks in addition to it feeding on you is that you move more slowly (due to the weight) and when you pick up health, the monster gets all the health points until it is fully healed before you get any. If you die, the monster hides in your backpack and can be picked up by another player. Surprise!
ATTACK: Something like from a Death Knight, but directed at your opponents/monsters. AI can be really simple; just shoot at anything in the current field of fire. Suck health every 30 seconds. First dibs on health.
IMAGINE: Encountering one of these man-plus things in a DM and facing two weapons at once! The guy is slow, and can't be much of a sniper 'cause the shield monster will fire at anything it sees, but will kill you quick unless you keep moving! By: -Furiousss-
#34 Monster Interior - good idea, like a nasty Moby Dick
WHAT: A lizard about 8 feet tall with green scales. Uses a huge axe and can actually swallow you whole. When it swallows you you can shoot the monster from the inside before the digestive juices kill you. By: -Sivaks-
#33 Stallion Status- a medieval jeep of sorts
WHAT: A horse that you can ride. You can climb on or off while playing at it let's you use a lance or something like that. By: -Sivaks-
#32 The Mubb - should I stay or should I go now....
IMAGE: A monster that looks like a huge mouth with two legs and arms. Black 3 foot body. Pearly white teeth.
WEAKNESS: Nailgun; Perforator
ATTACK: Don't let them fool you. They can run down a player in no-time flat, as well as rip them open in .5 sec!!! Avoid. They circle you, and do nothing. When you start to move away, the Mubb attacks with its claws and teeth. Keep still, and it won't attack. Move, and your sushi. By: -S.S.-
#31 Venomous Hell - the ever lasting hurt
WHAT: Drops down from ceilings when you pass near them. As soon as they land they try and jump onto you. If they hit you, you're hurt and poisoned. Your health continues to slowly decrease until you find a health box (any kind). By: -Angus-
#30 Ishmae Hell Damned Sailor - familiar to Herman Mellville and Star Trek (First Contact) fans alike, "...and if his chest were a cannon, he would have shot his heart out at it"
APPEARANCE: Looks like a sailor from the grave, seaweed draggin', eyepatch, wooden leg, bones and gibs all showing. Most notable feature is the torn open rib-cage with the heart exposed. In one hand, the character is holding a nasty looking harpoon. NOISE: A slimy dragging sound followed by a wooden thunk (one leg dragging and the wooden peg hitting the ground. A few haunting "Har Har Har"'s aught to do it. LONG RANGE ATTACK: Oozing chest wound widens and a heart is fired out, say 1 per second (and demonically replaced). The damage should be like a partial rocket (1/4 to 1/2). Splash damage should also be applicable (and potentially stronger as in a real rocket). SHORT RANGE ATTACK: A harpoon, with a sharp nasty edge would be handy. By: -Antagon-
#29 Living Wall - stop feeding the stone
APPEARANCE: Looks like an average wall, with green moss growing up and around it
NOISE: The wall emits groans and moans much like zombies OR it may emit noises of the dead monsters it absorbed
POWER: At first it's only power is the ability to absorb the bodies of dead creatures, eg: assume you just killed a shambler near the living wall, within 2 minutes the wall would suck in the body and then the powers of the shamber are now given to the living wall! Now the wall can shoot lightning, assume you walk up close to the wall, arms would reach out in the same form as the shamblers claws and thrash you, the same goes for any other monster. The wall has the hitpoints of the dead it collected if it collect two grunts and four ogres add up the hitpoints and you have the strength of the wall. If nothing dies near the wall then it is harmless. The wall has unlimited multiple attacks if a grunt, a shambler, and a knight were absorbed, then all of these monsters could attack an once. If it collected a dead player that was fully armed your in for some trouble.
MULTIPLAYER THREAT: In multiplayer games the wall may try to lure players near by dropping a weapon. Then when a player comes close BAM! the wall will start attacking with nail guns, shotguns, rockets, and even the axe. Imagine the damage a wall could do if it absorbed ten player bodies... players would have to team up just to kill it, and if they fail the bodies would be absorbed only making it more powerful! The wall could never be defeated only weakened. After you lowered it's hitpoints to zero all of the trapped monsters would die (again) BUT if anything new dies near it again, the body will be absorbed and the wall would be given life once again. Make a great guard for the CTF bases though ;-) I think the hard part would be stealing the arms of the shambler or a knight and "morphing" them into the wall, the arms should have the same texture as the wall. By: -RoadKill-
#28 BlackOut - oh shit, where'd I put my damn flashlight
APPEARANCE: Well, none that I can think of, due to his powers, but should probably be a dead white gnarled beast with milky white eyes and long fangs and claws.
ABILITIES: COMPLETELY knocks out all light in about a 15 foot radius from itself, and another 5 feet are slightly darkened for good measure. Here you are, chasing a weenie grunt down the hall when suddenly everything goes pitch black and you hear the sound of your flesh being mangled. It has to darken a large area or otherwise you'd see a little dark spot down the hall that you could easily lob a rocket into. He ought the let out a blood curdling shriek when he spots you and screams the whole time. It will move FAST in order to catch you in it's darkness, and when it gets close enough it'll stick to you like glue; all the while ripping you apart. I guess if you have some sort of powerup that gives off light you could see through it and you'd just see the yucky little wanker. By: -BlackRazor-
#27 Shark - Jaws XI
Complete with dorsal fin projecting from the surface of the water (occasionally only). Sharks strike an instinctive fear in the real world for all of us already, one properly modeled in quake would make us all less cavalier about heading for the water. Some key thoughts: Definitely silent, there should be no audible indication of a shark in the water unless you are in the water as well, and even then it should only be a low hiss or rumble, and then the real rippy, nasty tear sounds when an actual attack occurs. The shark should only actively hunt you based upon how bloody you are: the lower your health, the bigger your risk. If you are perfectly healthy, and don't get into its direct line of sight, you should stand a fair chance of watching it glide by. If you are a piece-o-hamburger, they should pick you up within seconds of entering any body of water at any point. There should at least be two types, a mako - hammerhead - tiger shark size, travels in small packs, two double barrel shots to take out. And, of course, Mr. White, with a shamblers constitution, and a fifty point bite. I can just see a fortress surrounded by water and the occasional dorsal fin gliding across the surface..... By: -CG-
#26 Mercury Knight - cool concept, spawning and merging
WHAT: This is morphologically like a Death Knight, with similar movement and attacks, but the size of a shambler (or maybe larger. It's large size limits it to larger halls and corridors, making it vulnerable to sniping attacks.
PERSONALITY: This is the unique part. It's made up of lots of smaller Death knights (up to 6), which break off of it when it's hit. This could be done as spawns from gibs when the big monster dies, or as the Mercury knight is dismembered in a wounding attack. The smaller death knights can fit in your little corridors, and will continue the attack. The big monster is either gone or wounded.
ATTACK: Regular Death Knight attack, but more damaging for the big one than for the little ones. After 10 seconds, the little ones run back to the big one and merge, or if the big one was gibbed, run together and form a new big one. You better get them all, or you've got to kill the big guy again!
IMAGINE: Blowing pieces of this huge Death Knight, only to have the gibs start attacking you! You run into a side hall to deal with the little ones, but they run back to Daddy and reform. Where's that nuke?..... By: -Furiousss-
#25 Shapeshifter - a morphing undercover traitor
WHAT: Mimics other players in TEAM PLAY. When one of these creatures kills a human player, it assumes their shape, color, and weapon. It then wanders until it finds a group of players and follows them around for awhile. As soon as a battle starts it shows its true colors and starts shooting you in the back.
PERSONALITY: It has to be smart enough to get back to the players and know when a good time to start shooting would be. It might be able to send fake messages to the players to really fake them out.
ATTACK: It would attack with the killed player's weapon. This might help make Team Play a little more exciting. By: -EvilJohn-
#24 Stealth Vampire - a shocking thief
He's totally invisible except for his shadow. He welds only one weapon , the lightning from the lightning gun . BUT he needs to charge for about 3 seconds and while he's charging he is visible and he is shooting out little sparks that cause 10% health damage. The lightning only jumps from one hand to the other but since he's totally quiet he pops up behind you and all you see is 2 hands reaching from behind you and in a flash your his next roasted dinner. He has a vampirish look and hovers 1 to 2 feet above the ground which makes him very fast. When visible he is about 6 feet tall has fangs that stick out of his mouth a little. He has a cape and and he has a little electronic device on either hand. His hands have small but VERY sharp claws witch he can slash with for a 35 to 50% health damage. This creatures best characteristic (For him that is) is to be able to pick up power ups. So you could be about to get the rocket launcher but then it disappears and you get fried by a rocket that just cam out of nowhere! He is immune to the lightning gun. The creature can get all power ups even health and quad damage and if your really unlucky he might pick get invincibility! He is friends to all creatures and can actually stop a fight (If its small enough). If your unlucky and you find one of these in a multiplayer game and then get killed by him he will receive every thing you have. Even your health (He eats you!). The creature has the equivalent of 200% health and can total up to 500% He has no armor (Unless he gets some). He actually tracks you so that he can open a door and blast you from behind so getting away from him is next to impossible. 2 - 3 grenades will kill him and if you find a little piece of wood it will kill him with 1 hit. By: -FireMoth-
#23 Machine Gunner - defensive station
This monster would be an average grunt placed behind a bigass machine gun or cannon. This guy would be stationary and very deadly. It would shoot out bullets at the rate of the super-nailgun, but the damage would be greater. This would require a lot of skill by the player to dodge all the bullets and kill this machine gunner. This monster could be placed in towers or in front of a button that you have to press or something. This guy would look like a grunt standing behind a big machine gun (like an M-60 or something), but it wouldn't any armor so that one rocket would kill it. This would give the monster some balance, easy to kill but very deadly. By: -Jarkko H.-
#22 Dragon - flying danger
WHAT: A huge dragon that hangs around open areas and waits like a hawk for some prey to come along.
PERSONALITY: Lets put it this way, mean, you shoot it, you stand still, you die. Simple enough.
LOOKS: Everyone has probably seen the movie "Dragon Heart". Looks something like the dragon in it but way meaner.
MOVES: Flies in a swooping motion and flaps large wings. Jogs around on ground on 2 legs.
WEAPONS: It swoops down low and from the wind from his wings, pushes you and makes it hard to get a good shot. Fires flames like a flame thrower but farther and hotter. For close combat, lashes out its spiked tail and wacks ya up-side the head.
WEAKNESS: Large blasts from rockets on its belly and head. Shotguns and nailguns do a bit of damage(kinda like the shambler). Immune to lightning blasts. By : -RAVEN-
#21 Lava Elemental - a hot liquid nasty
APPEARANCE: If you catch him off guard (he doesn't know you know that he's there) and look at him he will be a pool of lava on the floor. He would immediately form a new shape (like in terminator2- the liquid metal terminator changes shapes). the shape would be that of a man, but he would be all lava.
HABITAT: Some levels in quake have torches/fires, when you walk by these torches, he would follow you in sludge form, then morph when he was about to attack.
ATTACK: He holds out 1 arm at you. Then he sprays himself at you... as he sprays his body mass decreases, and eventually end up in front of you after his mass is totally gone. The easiest way to kill him lightning bolt, then explosives, then axe ; the shotguns and nailguns are useless: the melts down the nails/ shells as they hit him, and it makes him bigger. IF he takes a lot of damage he will go back to sludge form, and try to get away (in sludge form, he is very slow). If you try to run away while he is still healthy, he will follow you in sludge form (he only takes human form when close). IF he lands in the water, after a matter of seconds he will turn into rock- first he will become immobile (his legs are rock), then he will throw chunks of lava at you. In more seconds there will be a statue in the water, and he screams as it happens. Don't stay and watch though, because, the water will begin to boil, and boiling water will have the same effect as acid, but the biosuit will not prevent the boiling damage.
MISC: 1. The lightning electrocutes him, and turns him to stone, the explosives/axe takes small chunks off of him, and he loses mass (the small pieces won't go back to him. If he gets too small, he will try to jump into lava to grow bigger. He doesn't really "die" when he jumps in the lava, but he wont bother you or anything else anymore, except for an occasional lava toss at you. 2. If you hit him with the axe, it turns red hot, and does as much damage to other monsters as a it would if you had quad damage. 3. It would have the hit pints and the speed of an ogre, and be as big as a ogre in human form. if other monsters (or you) ever touch it, it will damage you because its red hot. By: -ErHNAM-
#20 The Leviathan - a muscle bound bad attitude
WHAT: This is a huge monsters, with appearance similar to the monster Luke Skywalker fights in "Return of the Jedi" (while he was in Jabbas castle). There mouths are COVERED in blood, and blood drips down from their 2 huge tusks (the tusks go the bottom of there mouth to the top). Their clawed hands are also dripping in blood, and they have patches of blood all over their originally green/brown bodies.
PERSONALITY: There creatures are not from the quake dimension, or the humans dimension, they are from their own world that was destroyed by Quake long ago, they seek revenge, they attack everything. Lucky for the quake dude, humans aren't his first priority, Shubs minions are.
MANEUVERABILITY: They should have the mass of snub niggarath, and the speed a little slower than a shambler. It CAN'T swim, so if it were be pushed into the water, it would drown after a few minutes (it would have about 800 hit points).
SOUNDS: A LOUD, LOUD, LOUD, long scream (AAAAHHHHHHH!!) when it first appears. It makes smaller screams as it attacks/gets hurt. Its growls as it walks around.
ATTACK: When it first appears, it comes out of a wall (the chunks of rock hurt you/other monsters somewhat if it hits you). When all the chunks of the wall hit the ground, it makes the long scream mentioned above. It will look around for monsters, if it sees them, it grabs them, and rips/bits/tears them to pieces, literally. It DOESN'T do this to you, since it only partially hates you, he takes the gibs from the monsters(s) it just killed, and throws them at you. He only attacks you if there are no other monsters around, or if you come to close to him (about twice the distance required to open a door). If he runs out of gibs, he will pick up a stone or 2 and hurls them at you, witch would damage you more, then he starts to charge at you, you think he's going to tear you apart, but instead he jumps over you, and plows through the wall, and you will meet him later on in that level, assuming there are monsters around.
IMAGINE: Your in a room with a shambler/other monsters, then HE explodes out of the wall, the monsters hear his scream, and turns to fight him, ignoring you. He rips the shambler to bits, then the vore, then starts hurling them at you. good idea, no? By: -ErHNAM-
#19 The Arachnezzth - a booming reproductive spider
DESCRIPTION: Imagine a black arachnid-looking creature with 9 small glowing red eyes on top of its head, about the size of an Ogre but with the health of a Shambler. It has a bulbous black abdomen and 8 appendages like a spider but only walks on six of them. It uses the forward two to grasp its prey (The hapless doomed soldiers who roam its lairs unsuspecting).
MOVEMENT: The scariest thing about this monster is that it can walk on ceilings and walls. If you were running away from it down the hall, it'd likely be crawling on the wall or the ceiling chasing you instead of the floor. And another thing, it moves pretty fast for its size. Let's say it moves as fast as the Knights (I'd picture it moving faster though..hehe..probably as fast as a running player! :O ).
ATTACK: Another frighting thing about this creature is that it attacks via a grapple-like structure in its mouth which drains the blood (And lifeforce) from the hooked creature and which it then uses to haul them in. While its victim is 'grappled' they take damage as if they'd beengrappled with a normal grappling hook. When the player gets down to 10 hitpoints, it doesn't drain anymore life from them but it bites them (Assuming the player has been hauled back to the creature with the grapple) putting them into suspended animation. Then it lays an egginside the body, drops it on the floor and looks for more victims. The body will look like a normal fragged corpse for 1 minute and then it will explode (causing light damage to anything nearby) revealing another Arachnezzth. If the Arachnezzth is draining a player (That's been hauled in and is in its grasp) and comes under attack by one or more players, it will retreat until its laid its egg in the player, then it will attack the nearest player. One thing about its grappling attack is that it only uses it once every 2 seconds. If it does grapple a player, he can force it to release its grapple with one or two well aimed rockets/grenades(Of course, using a shotgun to make it let go might not be as effective. :-) ) or a good blast from the Lightning Gun. If it grapples you and you make it let go twice, maybe it gives up on trying to grapple you and just hauls ass after you trying to wrap all its legs around you (Rendering you unable to use your weapons) and drain you that way. :-) Here's another thought. Maybe you could give it the ability to hop or jump over a player's rockets on occasion. :-)
HABITATS: The Arachnezzth prefers dark ceilings from which it can get good aim on its prey or dark corners of the wall where its dark body blends in perfectly. It hates bright light (Such as flares) and will run away from them. This also includes players using the Quad powerup or the Pentacle of Protection (And who says monsters are stupid? heh..). Some of the above wouldn't really be good for single player games such as the egg-laying bits, but I think this'd make a pretty scary DM game agitator. :-) And even so, instead of having it attack players you could have it attack all monsters it sees and do the same to them. And maybe you can have it lay more eggs inside a larger sized monster. Say 3 in a Shambler, 2 in the Ogre and 1 in the rest. As for the Zombies, maybe you could have it just tear them to shreds ala a gib. By: -Radon-
#18 Little Gremlins - puny little annoyances all over the freekin place
They're little gremlins, if you didn't catch that. They're about oh, lets say 1/4 the size of a grunt, maybe smaller, the structure of a shambler, except the arms are skinnier, and so is the head, the legs and "trunk" are short and stocky. They bite, claw, and can hang onto you. They also can emit little lighting things like the shambler, only its very rare, and 1/10 the size. Imagine E1M6 where the zombies drop out of that secret area, instead drops 30 or 50 of these little buggers, all making really high pitched scratching, clawing, teeth nashing sounds as they run in a pack to get you. Thats right, packs, they always travel in at least groups of 3. Interesting idea anyways, I thought. By: -insane-
#17 Heavy Tank - ahh...umm...a tank
WHAT: It's a tank straight out of the modern War of your choice.
PERSONALITY: Perhaps sentry, perhaps patrols... Probably would guard a large open area with a lot of goodies.
ATTACK: I suppose it would fire a modified version of the rocket launcher rocket, perhaps it always fires a Quad-power rocket. Or, it could run over you, instant death. Everything aside from the grenade and rocket launcher would barely effect this mechanized terror.
IMAGINE: Wide open area with a tank guarding an entrance... GOOD LUCK Mr.Quake Dude. By: -Xenon-
#16 Ghost - who needs walls
WHAT: A "clear" ghost... perhaps it looks similar to the way ships are "cloaked" in Descent.
PERSONALITY: Random Haunter.... perhaps emerges from dead beasts. Can clip through walls. Want's you for breakfast.
ATTACK: Slimes ya, it's acidic slime... Only the thunderbolt would effect it. A'la Ghostbusters.
IMAGINE: Ghosts coming from walls, grab a dust buster. By: -Xenon-
#15 The Doom Marine with a BFG - a mighty foe
WHAT: The doom dude!
PERSONALITY: Takes bullets to the head for fun. NO 3D model here, keep him a sprite!! (is this possible?)
ATTACK: BFG....
IMAGINE: The past coming alive and f*cking shit up. By: -Xenon-
#14 Bagourd - tough, jumpy thief groupies
WHAT: These are little creatures, about half the height of a human. Their skin is dark green, and very tough. They wear the rags/flesh they've collected from dead bodies. They also have sacks/backpacks on their backs. Basically, Yoda on 'roids.
PERSONALITY: They go through the level moving goodies (eg armour, weapons) from place to place (hoping to lure food)... If you kill them they drop whatever they're carrying. They like to move in groups (3 to 5 per group)... But, can get separated (and regroup later). If the group is bigger then 5, a battle (meal) will occur between themselves until there is only 5. They are very carnivorous. (ie eat anything they can) Bagourds will eat a body to gibs before moving onto other prey. If there is no other prey they will eat the gibs.
NOISES: Cross between R2-D2, a dolphin, and a dog whistle.
MANEUVERABILITY/HEALTH: They are a little bit faster then a human. They jump twice as high as a human. They despise water and will never swim unless forced to. (either because they've latched onto you, or to escape from you) They have very tough skin, so explosives take off twice as much health as the other weapons. Two direct rocket hits will kill them. Electricity has no effect on them.
ATTACK: If you encounter a single bagourd it will run away. If you encounter a group of at least 3 bagourds they will attack. Since you're food they run at you and latch on. They can latch onto the legs, arms, back, head (can blind you if covering your eyes); and will eat you to death. Once they've latched on you they're too close to use any of you weapons to kill them. You either have to run into a wall a whole bunch of times, or jump into water to get them off you. They can't go without air long (2/5 that of a human) so will release if put in water. Five bagourds can devour a 200% x2 human in 10 seconds. By: -porkpie-
#13 Water Elemental - exactly
A really cool monster I would like to see would be waterborne. It would come out of the water, like Chton in e1m7, although he would be slightly smaller, and would melt back into the water when killed, and he would have the same texture as water. This could be adapted to fit Fire elementals, by turning them into lava. Earth and Air elementals could easily be created by creating creatures which come out of thin air, and creatures that come out of walls. This would bring greater terror to playing a quake level, and would be just like the time when you first played doom. By: -Jester-
#12 Teleporting Thief - right
I think a teleporting monster would be incredible for Quake. The monster would generally teleport only when it was low on life, in an effort to save itself. The really dangerous thing about it would be that it would go to areas where their were either health boxes or gibbed heads and consume them to regenerate. Seems like this creature should be humanoid, and it's primary attack would be hand-to-hand. By: -JRE-
#11 The Necromancer - endlessly pregnant and versatile Zombie mom
You know all those Zombies wandering around, ripping chunks off of themselves? The ones that can only be permanently killed by gibbing them? Well, who made them? The Necromancer is a bent little crone with little offensive ability of his own. He can move rather fast, although not quite as fast as a regular Quake soldier at a full run. Call it halfway between walk speed and run speed. His only attack is Zombifying. He can take *ANY* creature that has died without gibbing and turn it into a Zombie. Not just the regular Zombie, but a Zombified version of the original creature. Think of the implications - a Shambler that can't be killed without being gibbed! By: - InThane Walkup-
#10 Gmoth - pretty grotesque way to die
Gmoth would have a unique way of attacking you, and you a really phat-ass way to kill him. Gmoth will have a gun implanted into his flesh on one arm and a sickle on his other. He would use his sickle to bring you closer to him. Then once you're in his grasp, he would tear your stomach open, and use his gun in a most gratuitously violent manner. I think you can figure it out. Pictures hopefully soon to come. By: -Rabidmonkey-
#9 Berserker Cyborg - solid titanium with a sweet spot
The Berserker is a monster about the size of a Shambler, preferably humanoid, that can only do damage with its hands. The catch is this: The thing is COMPLETELY armored on the front side. COMPLETELY. If a rocket hits it in the chest, it doesn't take any damage. None. It'll simply fall back a bit, maybe stagger. Nails and maybe other projectiles like a thunderbolt actually bounce off this armor, and can damage you. Of course, its back is very vulnerable. But it can turn very fast, faster than a Shambler. So the trick would be to bounce grenades into his back, or fire explosive ordinance between his legs at the ground behind him, or maybe have a level trap like a crusher take him out. To make it especially hard, if it gets its gauntleted hands on you, it crushes the life out of you, unless you can make it stagger back from a close-in explosion, which would probably kill you anyway. This monster would make a good boss or sub-boss, IMO. By: -DR_Unit-
#8 Water Things - underwater annoyances
WHAT: Electric eels/serpents/fish/whatever. Maybe even an inoffensive looking animal, like a little blowfish, or perhaps funky looking globular amoeba-like thingies.
PERSONALITY: Depends on appearance. If you went with an eel/serpent look, then they would be swarming creatures that would be very intent on closing with their prey (you). If, on the other hand, you went with the inoffensive target/obstacle approach, they would simply be drifting obstructions that only attacked when "spooked", i.e. when you come near.
ATTACK: The attack would be a modified lightning in water, ranged damage. The closer to the monster, the more damage would be inflicted. Of course, it would have to be lessened in comparison to the all-or-nothing "Player has discharged" damage. When killed, it would be appropriate for the "shock-monster" to release a more powerful discharge, possibly damaging other "shock-monsters" and causing an electrifying chain-reaction, mass-discharge. Wo0-ho0.
IMAGINE: Wading into a pool, you discover it infested by non-sentient bobbing amoebas. In the process of dropping a cap into a friend of yours, you startle the beasts, and they light up your life. Then imagine noticing a friend treading softly through a 'flock' of the blobbies, and the thrill of popping one, and watching the fireworks as 15 of these things discharge and gib. By: -DCH-
#7 Tentacle Hell - take a deep breath
The waterways of Quake just aren't dangerous enough. Does the idea of a few gimpy Rotfish really give anyone pause before they dive headfirst into a pool? I think not. My idea of a monster would be something extremely lethal that would attack you by gripping you with it's appendages and holding you underwater until you drowned. What would make it especially deadly was that it feared light, and therefore would only stay in the dark corners of the underwater areas. What it would look like would be basically up to the artists imagination...the important thing would to give it a couple of long tentacles to trap it's prey with. Like most creatures in Quake, this one hates the other monsters almost as much as the player...if it was by chance damaged by scrag spit or an ogre's grenade, ect.- then it would try and grapple the offending creature and drag it underwater...(I suppose a different form of damage would have to be worked out, as the enemies don't seem to suffer from drown damage) BTW, this monster would have to have a lot of life...like as much as a shambler even, because the nature of it's attack takes a little while before it starts to damage the player-we have to help it stick around so it can get it's licks in. Anyways, the point is-let's haunt the underwater areas a bit...toughen them up... By: -JRE-
#6 Sand Pit Death - get your appendages off me
I think it would be cool to have a monster like the sand-pit thing at the beginning of Return of the Jedi. It would be stationary, but it would have those long tentacles that could reach out and grab you, pulling you into its waiting mouth at the bottom. It would have to be tougher than the one in the movie, with tentacles each having the health of a knight or maybe ogre. They would pull you rather quickly, and the only way to escape is to destroy the tentacle. You could destroy the monster itself (the mouth at the center), but it would have to have massive health or be explosion-resistant like shamblers. As a variation, these babies could be placed on the ceiling! Imagine being yanked off your feet, looking up, and seeing that waiting mouth with those sharp teeth! Anyway, *I* think that would be cool! :) By: -Rich Schmidt-
#5 Clear Power - did you see that?
Make a transparent monster sort of like Predator. Not totally transparent, but just enough to make him hard to see. Maybe instead of transparent, make him change colors to blend with a wall like one of those lizards. (It's early and I can't remember what they're called). This would be a cool powerup or game mod for the players too. It has some really good deathmatch possibilities. I know this may sound hard to do, but I've seen a lot projects that everyone thought were impossible, and BOOOOM....sooner or later some kick ass programmer nails it! (no pun intended). By: -reptilian-
#4 Worm Tension - damn that's a tight fit
What about a worm like monster that comes at you from underground. When he catches you (if you don't nuke his ass with a rocket or grenade) then he tries to pull you underground through a hole that is too small for your body and you GIB!! Kind of like a small version of the DUNE Spice Worms. By: -reptilian-
#3 Dungeon Spider - yup
What: This is a mostly immobile creature that inhabits high corners of a level. It stays in it's corner (or web) until a player (or bot or other monster) comes close enough to it. Then it attacks. It's about the size of a fiend, with the same movement speed and health.
Personality: Sitting duck for long range attacks, but it lives in dark corners, so unless you use flares to light up all the corners, you'll never know where one may be.
Attack: When a victim comes within range of the spider, it drops down from the ceiling and grabs him. It pulls him up to it's web and begins wrapping it up in webbing. This could be implemented by modifying the grappling hook code, and spinning the player to simulate wrapping up. Webbing could be tough... As the player is spun/wrapped, his movement becomes slower, and his health drains from the biting attacks. The axe would probably be the best weapon to use here, to cut yourself free and drop to the floor (which might kill you). Otherwise, your friends might have to blow you away to put you out of your misery....
Imagine: Tall dark rooms with spiders that come out of nowhere (with an appropriate hissing sound) and snatch you to the high rafters to be devoured slowly, and even if you can escape, you may not have enough health to survive the fall to the floor. By: -Furiousss-
#2 Ragdoll Two - how'd I get up here? ouch!
This monster is similar to a Ragdoll Monster but quite a bit better. It would be 3/4 the size of a Knight but have much larger, longer arms with huge hands, but much shorter and stronger legs. It would have a land speed of a Orge and have the health of a Scrag. It would have a tongue like a frog but the tongue would be 30X its body length, yet the tongue would still be stored in its mouth. Its tongue would be used mainly for its movement by grapling hooking to ceilings, beams, walls, rafters, etc.; even people and other monsters. For example, it might lash out its tongue and hitch a ride on the shoulder of a Shambler. When the Shambler is done, it comes at u. The "tongue speed" would be like a Fiend's jump. The tongue would do no damage if u were to get hit by it. Now, here're the two cool parts. ONE: Its arms is its main weapon, but the damage doesn't come from being hit. It comes from how u land after being hit. Once it pounces in front of u, usually from above some where, it would love to see u get flattened against a wall or ceiling. It will swat u relentlessly with mighty force and launch u into the air allowing u to bounce off the rafters, ceil and walls. Note:the view on the monitor while u are thrown would be fliping and rotating quickly all over the place; like u were actually tumbling. U might bounce off of 4 or 5 different surfaces b4 u come to a stop. It can even make u skip off the floor, like a flat stone on water. U get hurt from the hard contact with the ceiling, rafters and floor. It would allow a few seconds for u to get your bearing b4 stiking again. TWO: I would be visible like the "Predator" in the Predator movie or the invisible "Pink Pigs" in Doom. hehe. You would see its shape only as an extremely faint(much more faint than Doom's pigs), blury silhouette w. the texture of what's behind it in it. Now, tell me this monster wouldn't be the shit! #1 Black Hole Monster - does the Dirt Devil know about this?
WHAT: It's flat. Like a 10ftX10ft piece of thin clear plastic. It takes on ALMOST exactly the appearance of the texture its on, like a camelione. Its easiest to see when its moving. It only exists on walls, ceilings and floors. It moves by sliding itself along the flat surfaces and at the speed of a Knight. It can bend so it can slide around corners of walls or slide through and around the cracks of doorways. It has the health of a Fiend.
PERSONALITY: When you come across one, u will startle it and it will make a noise like a match being lit only a longer sound. It will try and run. It's scared of humans. It's not scared of other monsters though, so it may very likely run into rooms or hallways u haven't been b4 to try and get away. It doesn't care a hoot that the other monsters are trying to kill u while u try and hunt it down.
ATTACK: If it gets away, its attack some time later is a HUGE vacuum. It will make a huge noise like someone is choking and puking at the same time 8 seconds b4 is starts sucking(this gives u time to run away from noise, duh). The sucking noise sounds like a massive wind/tornado storm. Once it starts sucking, it turns black on its surface and it wont stop till its done feeding. U can be up to 6 rooms and 6 hallways away and its vacuum will be so strong that it will suck/pull u toward its center opening at the speed of a humans normal running pace. Yes, it will suck u around any corner and it will suck/feed in/on monsters also. If it sucks u into is hole b4 u kill it, it will dislocate every bone in your body leaving u with 1pt health and 1pt armor and then spit u out. If u r lucky, it will suck in a monster first, leaving it w. 1 pt health instead of u.
IMAGINE: Your fighting an Orge and a Scrag in a room and The Black Hole u lost earlier starts to choke/puke. U got 8 seconds to listen, fight and run. Then, SHIT, too late, u r being pulled to who knows where with a Orge and Scrag right behind u as helpless as u r. 4 rooms later, you can see the Black Hole up ahead closing fast and u start shooten.... Happy Hunting. By: -Destroy-
