Henry Mitchell School was built by a WPA project between 1935 - 1936. Mitchell is the second oldest middle school in the Racine Unified School District and one of two middle schools with an elementary school attached to it. Over the years there have been two major additions to this facility and the band room - while in the oldest part of the campus - is a completely renovated area boasting a large instrument storage room, practice rooms, music office and rehearsal area.
