Performance Opportunities Symphony Band Open to 7th and 8th grade band students - by audition only. Rehearsals are after school on Thursdays. The Symphony Band travels to a national music festival each year and also participates in a music festival at Six Flags Great America. 8th Grade Concert Band Open to 8th grade band students who played in the 7th grade concert band last year. Class meets every other day. Director approval for membership in the 8th grade concert band is required. 7th Grade Woodwinds and Brass/Percussion Open to 7th grade band students who played in the 6th grade concert band or who started an instrument in 6th grade. Class meets every day. Director approval for membership in the 7th grade concert band is required. 6th Grade Concert Band Open to 6th grade students who participated in 5th grade band or started an instrument during summer school. Class meets every fourth day. 6th Grade Beginning Lessons This is the last chance for middle school students to start a band instrument. The lesson schedule is a "pull-out" schedule during study centers. Lessons are given every fourth day. Beginning students will perform at the spring band concert in May. Jazz Ensemble Open to mostly 8th grade band students - by audition only. Rehearsals are before school on various days. Jazz Combo Smaller jazz group - membership by audition only. Rehearsals are before school on various days.
