BARK RIVER AIRPORT & A GATHERING ON THE LANE

A Gathering on the Lane 1998

BARK RIVER AIRPORT (2W17)

Long. 88-27-30 W Lat. 43-02-00 N

The Schobers unite Tom's love for flying with Patty's love for arts and crafts, by staging an annual Fly-In and Craft Fair each fall, called A Gathering on the Lane. The Craft Fair has drawn about 40 crafters each year from all over Southeastern Wisconsin and Northern Illinois. Food is outstanding. A hay wagon serves as a stage for local talent groups and professionals who play during the two day affair. Over 2,500 people attended in 1998! The public is invited.

The 1998 event drew over 60 aircraft, many antique planes, including several bi-planes. Volunteer pilots gave over 150 free rides to children from 8 to 17 years old, as part of the EAA Young Eagles Program.

Bark River Airport is turf, 2,000 foot long and 75 feet wide, and has a parallel taxiway (on the north side of runway 09-27) and a windsock at mid-field. There are wires on the west end and trees on the east end. The east end also runs slightly downhill for the last 300 feet. Pilots should call (414)965-2424 to ask Tom for a briefing, or send an email to tgs@execpc.com for a briefing and to assure pilot and plane capabilities can accommodate this landing strip.

The Gathering on the Lane will be held on a September weekend that the Packers are not expected to play, to avoid conflicts. We will keep you posted.
