It wasn't until 1992 when I started taking notes on the trail of what the crew actually did, so my memory is a bit fuzzy. I hope an abbreviated description will do.

The crew started at the Miranda turnaround. Busses don't run there any more (at least in that time period) so the crew got permission to use their personal vehicles to head on that way. The first day was spent at Miranda Camp, where Mountain Man living was the program.

The next day the crew went to Copper Park. I think the crew spent two days here. We climbed Baldy and then took a special hike. It being during the 50th anniversary celebration of Philmont, the Ranch was able to obtain special permission for crews to hike a special "anniversary trail." This consisted of the ridge that goes down off of Baldy and around Copper Park. There are many beuatiful vistas and view up there. There are also reminders and ruins from the old gold mining days.

Next, the crew went to Pueblano. I'm not sure which day it was while in the Baldy Country, but the crew stopped at French Henry. At Pueblano, the crew took part in the lumberjacking activities and attended the Philmont Story Campfire.

The following day, the crew went over Wilson's Mesa to Dan Beard Camp. The view of Baldy on top of the mesa is wonderful! The program at Dan Beard was some kind of low impact camping activity. I really don't remember. What I mainly remember was thinking how beautiful the meadow was that went into the Valle Vidal and how I would have loved to go hiking off in there to see what there was to see.

I don't remember what we did after that, but we must have gone back in via a bus at Ponil or along the road, got our cars from Miranda, and did the Closing Campfire. We had a great after-trek dinner in the St. James.

The crew really bonded and it was such a great time. I would encourage you to keep notes if you ever go on a trek because so much is lost with the passage of time.

Thanks for stopping in.
