Sustainable Woods Alliance
A gathering of local Sustainable Forestry Cooperatives
to actively manage private timber resources

The central Alliance will serve the local cooperatives with:
Cooperative School for new  cooperatives - and a source of sample business plans
Training for forestry staff, ecologists, and loggers
Education - a forestry school for landowners
Certification of Resource Managers
Public Relations and outreach to forest owners
Research and Development of products, methods, equipment
Group buying power for equipment and supplies
Marketing of products including factory outlet retail stores
Government contacts and lobbying
Fund Raising and identifiying sources of information on financing
Revolving Loan Fund to start satellite cooperatives.
Newsletter - sustaianble forestry magazine
Central processing facilities for wood products - high-tech machinery
Engineering and road building crews
GIS system for planning maps
Bar Code Inventory - Chain of custody computer systems


Local Sustainable Forestry Cooperatives:
Each local group will have a Board of Directors to maintain local control
They will employ ther own forestry staff - 1 forester per 5,000 acres
Local work crews will do timber harvesting and primary processing;
      Sawmilling and lumber drying, firewood processing, dry wood storage
Trucking  will be done by area drivers (hire or lease equipment)
Cooperative groups will do habitat management and other work projects
Each cooperative is owned and operated by its members
One representative will serve on the Board of the Alliance
