"You call that
Sustainable??"

Many people are using "Sustainable Forestry"
in their language today.  Most folks seem to use the term to their advantage, without actually thinking about what they are really saying.

One test of the word Sustainable is to think about it from the point of view of the next generation.

We are currently harvesting our oak timber in this region 2.5 times faster than it is growing....        and we are allowing the good trees to be taken while the damaged, defective, and undesirable trees are left for the future.

We are allowing our timber to be cut - as if there is no tomorrow.

We are "taking" for today's profit and leaving little hope for our children.
