The Perfect Stump!

Less than 4" high, there is no wasted wood left in the stump.  The small wedge removed to make the notch lays to the side.  The 1" hinge broke off cleanly with no splitting or fiber pull.  The tight growth rings show that this 130 year old tree has only grown 2" diameter in the last 30 years.

Mike measures and marks the best logs possible as he bucks and limbs the tree.  Despite being a "rainbow tree", this white oak will produce high quality quarter-$awn lumber.  This forest has never been commercially harvested.  Extreme overcrowding is now causing high mortality. The first trees to be removed are either dead, dying,  diseased, deformed, defective, or wind damaged.
