Log home building offers many good markets for products from your woods.  From house logs to flooring to cabinets, real wood finds great stature in this art form.  A log that is used in its original form has unique beauty.

Specialty markets offer great opportunity to a forest owner.  I just had a call for 20 cords of pine logs for a log cabin.  To be able to market such a small batch of logs is very important to an owner with just a few acres of trees. 
House logs are more valuable than cordwood or sawlogs.  When managing a pine plantation today, go immediately to a crop tree management plan with small house logs as the intermediate product.  Large house logs and then veneer logs are usually the best final product from a plantation.  In a young stand, thin your trees early to maximize the growth of the better trees to produce house logs ASAP.

In the log home industry, there are many big markets that buy logs according to set specifications.  Their prices are generally higher than normal log markets, but they can be slightly more selective. 
Hand crafted log home builders offer the best market for logs.  It is very interesting to see your logs actually made into a home.  Look in the yellow pages or search your area for hand crafters.  Let them know what kind of trees you have and how large they are.  When they need your specific type of log, they may give you a call.
