Our work to reach full stocking levels to attain Sustainable Forest Management
Stocking Level in 1973 350MBF poor quality from high grading
Harvests to date 250MBF low grade logs and cordwood
Current stocking level 800MBF average quality is much improved
Annual net growth in 1998 36MBF growth is mostly good quality now
Annual Harvest 20MBF low grade live trees
Annual Salvage of dead trees 10MBF not included in net growth
Full Stocking Level 1,000MBF this goal should be reached about
the year 2010
Allowable harvest in future 40MBF this is our sustained yield harvest
(good quality trees)
Timber Stand Improvement - 320 acres accomplished (some stands several times)
Crop Tree Release harvests - 140 acres (some stands several times)

Is is very rewarding to see the forestry work we have done for 20 years really starting to pay off in a beautiful forest, a lovely new log home, and steady income from improvement harvesting. Another 14 years and our timber should reach full stocking on most stands, and then things will really pick up. By then timber values for good logs should be out of sight and demand will be truly worldwide for all products. What other investment can offer so many rewards
As your forests grows, you should keep careful watch over the growth rates of your crop trees. We work to attain 1/4 inch growth rings (1/2" diameter/year) on the best trees. When a majority of your crop trees begin to slow their growth, you know all the available growth nutrients, water and light are being utilized fully. Proper spacing of crop trees, as determined by the Timbergreen Crop Tree Spacing Guide, will also signal when the forest is reaching optimum stocking levels. As this goal is realized, a regular harvest cycle can begin to maximize income while continually maintaining high quality trees for the future.
