Harvesting Pulp

Skidding with a horse team can minimize the damage done to your forest when logs are removed during a harvest.  This old fashioned method is again gaining favor with many forest owners.

Lower production vs. higher damage done by mechanical skidders is discussed in this article.

Tree plantations are difficult to establish these days with high deer populations.  Alternatives for planting and plantation management are covered to give some hope to forest owners who love to plant trees, despite the deer.

Total utilization of each tree cut is very important for forest owners.  More income from cordwood sales, less mess left over from logging, and easier access through the forest are all reasons to use all the pulpwood and sawbolts from each tree.  If a logger doesn't want to take the time to do this you should find another logger, demand is quite high for your trees today.
