Salvaging trees that die of Oak Wilt is the main source of high quality logs here at Timbergreen Farm.  Getting these logs out of the woods with minimal damage is our top priority.
Directional felling is very important to avoid injuring future crop trees and preventing skidding damage.  Trees should be dropped where the least amount of turning is needed to get the logs out of the woods.
Selective harvesting in Crop Tree Management should be done by a well trained, very skilled, and well paid professional logger.  The future of your forest is in his hands...

State of the art logger training now is to cut a shallow notch, and then bore out the center of the tree with the saw.  Wedges are used to maintain full control of the tree while it is placed in the desired opening in the forest.  This method of boring the center of the tree is less likely to split the log, and is much safer for the cutter.  Forest owners who do their own cutting should learn this new method of felling.
