How many puppies can you keep in a box?

If you put 10 puppies in a box, with only enough food, water, and space for one dog...  and neglected to take regular care of them....  you would be arrested for cruelty!

If you put ten baby trees in a field, in a space large enough for one mature tree, and neglected to take regular care of them......        no one would notice.                Yet this happens all the time.
Every year, millions of trees are planted in Wisconsin on private land - and are overcrowded, neglected, struggling to survive,  starving.....

People seem to understand the need to care for young animals -

its common sense!!

The same folks often do not apply the same common sense
                                    to caring for their trees.

Trees need space, water, food (nutrients) - and love.
You can't just stick them in the ground and never look back.
Plantations need regular care.  Be a responsible steward.
Take good care of your baby trees!

Timber needs frequent attention to maximize the many returns you can gain from your forest.  A stand becomes crowded in about 15 years after new planting or a major regeneration harvest.  We prefer a five year treatment cycle to avoid major disturbance.  Careful management can usually produce a wide variety of trees sizes, ages, and species. Sustainable Management is our future.
