Sustainable Forestry Cooperatives will work to market all harvested timber in it's most valuable form: (see this example)
Fuelwood will be split, dried, and delivered to urban markets. Bundles of firewood will be sold through retail outlets and campgrounds.
Pallets and Stakeswill be manufactured from low grade lumber.
Flooring and Millwork will be manufactured from sound and high grade boards.
Architectural Lumber will be marketed on the internet.
As much wood as possible will be processed for maximum value added income.
Excess lumber production may be sold as kiln dry stock to regional woodworkers.
Excess logs will be marketed by the truck load through a sort yard system.
Specialty markets will be developed for a wide range of forest products.
Certified products can earn a premium price compared to unlabeled wood. This extra money can be sought out through creative marketing, and will be passed directly to the forest owner to encourage sustainable forest management for the future. Lower marketing costs due to higher demand for certified wood will create another "certified premium", also directly increasing the owner's profit.
Forest owners who do their own harvesting can market the wood through a SFC. They can also have their own lumber, flooring, or firewood processed and returned to them.
Forest Owner Field Days are held on a monthly basis to show landowners sustainable management work in action. Members will be encouraged to actively take part in accomplishing their management plan.
Cooperative volunteer work projects can be carried out with small groups of members to help individuals with prescribed burns, TSI, tree planting etc.
