Sustainable Forestry on Private Land - page 3
A forest can be viewed like a retirement account: You build up your investment to its maximum value, and then only use the interest each year, saving the principal intact through the future.
Sustainable Forestry continually builds up the quality and quantity of timber while increasing the natural diversity of the forest. Future generations are insured through natural regeneration (and planting if necessary).
Smart Wood and the Scientific Certification System are the two programs offering Certification for Sustainable Forestry in the U.S. Timbergreen Forestry in Spring Green is working with these programs to help forest owners learn about Certification. Forest Owner Field Days are being offered September 6th and October 4th, at Timbergreen Farm to inform interested people of this new program. Representatives of Smart Wood and the Institute for Agricultural and Trade Policy will be speaking.
