CarelessHarvesting - The death of  Sustainable Forestry

Skidder damage, like this scrape on a perfect young 12" diameter red oak tree, ruins this tree for the future,  The logger did not salvage this tree either, it was left to stand and gradually decay into worthlessness.  To make things worse, it is obvious that with a little thought, the skidder could have gone on the other side of this tree, where there was plenty of room to pass with no damage.
We see signs of this carelessness almost every day in the woods.  Forest owners need to be certain, before starting a harvest, that the loggers will treat their land and timber with respect, to insure that the future of the forest will be fostered - not destroyed.
