Hypertext Features Of Books

When viewed from a hypertext perspective, books already contain many hypertext-like features. The user interface for books includes the following reader navigation features:

These features of books evolved over a long period of time. The user interface specification process began with the advent of the Gutenberg press in 1450. A current user interface specification for books can be found in "The Chicago Manual of Style," originally published in 1906, and now in its fourteenth edition.
