Ancillary Issues

As Marshall McLuhan pointed out thirty years ago, available technology defines the medium. Like it or not, the Internet, the World Wide Web, Netscape and HTML are defining hypertext. It is one thing to discuss the theory of hypertext and quite another to work within the reality being imposed by the current hardware and software. Issues to consider are:

Standalone Hypertext Documents - How are they like books? How do they relate to WWWeb "pages?"
Word Processing/Desktop Publishing - How does it relate to the past? Can it be brought forward to WWWeb publishing?
Technical Issues Regarding Hypertext Systems - What is required of the software to support reasonable hypertext structure and style conventions? Does Netscape meet the requirements?
WWWeb Publishing and Hypertext - Can true hypertext be published on the WWWeb? What tools are needed?
