The Volga German Trip - 3

Volga River boardwalk by Hotel Slovakia where we stayed in Sarotov - this stretched for miles with great beer, vodka and food tents, ice cream wagons everywhere & people strolling late into the evening.

Russian Orthodox cemetery in Remler, Russia where we found a Christian cross and maybe German ancestor?

Typical Russian village – Obermonjou - we visited looking for cemeteries and people who spoke German and knew of the Volga Germans – this bright blue paint – signifying happiness – was everywhere on window frames & shutters.

My cousin Tom (with the hat) was talking German to the lady in the Russian village who was concerned that because she was old and alone there was no one left in the village to bury her. Nikolai Titov (with hat at his side) – a Russian - has developed a museum in Marks, Russia devoted to the Volga Germans.  He spoke only Russian and joined us for one day of our tour.
