Daniel O'Connor's artwork in the "TRIO" exhibit represents a departure from his previous work [see "Duet Pictures" at KM art, January 2000, with Scott Zieher], largely abandoning the figurative for a kind of abstract expressionism. This is the brightest and in some ways the most "modern" of work in the exhibit. Unless it be fast food litter, there is no more mundane ground in found paper but subscription reply cards. An annoyance in daily life at best, here they are redeemed as precious objects. Daniel O'Connor -- "DannyO" -- is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Cooper Union. He is a Boston native who currently splits his time between NYC (Williamsburg, Brooklyn) and Boston and North Adams, Massachusetts. His work with found materials extends far beyond paper with an immense effort involving found and retrieved play balls of all kinds, currently filling a room at MassMOCA, numbering in the thousands, and in numerous other efforts. |
