Samantha was our first basset hound - unregistered and of unknown lineage but with personality that won us over  permanently to the breed.  She was stubborn, unruly,  naughty and absolutely loveable.  She loved everyone and  everything - except getting her toenails trimmed.  Samantha once managed to escape from the yard and was missing for several hours.  We were frantic with worry until the young daughter of a friend brought her home - she had found Samantha while she was walking home from school and she saw Samantha following the mailman on his rounds!  She earned her Companion Dog title at the age of ten years, earning qualifying scores in six consecutive obedience  trials.  We will never forget the Schmoo.
